How are my eyes kept open during the procedure?
During the procedure, an eyelid holder is placed under your eyelids to hold your eye open. That way you do not have to worry about not blinking.
What if my eye moves during treatment?
During the procedure you will be asked to focus on a blinking light. Designed to provide more accurate results, the ActiveTrak eye tracker is new 3D eye-tracking technology. With ActiveTrak, the laser detects and compensates for small eye movements by guiding the laser beam to keep it centered precisely over the treatment area. ActiveTrak continuously repositions the laser beam throughout the procedure for greater accuracy. ActiveTrak realigns itself between each laser pulse insuring pinpoint accuracy. The eye tracker adds a new level of precision, comfort, and safety not previously available.
Is laser eye correction surgery a real surgery?
Laser surgery is surgery and should be treated as such. With proper care, it is not a dangerous or risky procedure. Though it is painless, there are risks associated with laser surgery, as with any surgical procedure. However, several clinical studies have identified the chance of serious vision-reducing complications as less than 1%.
Why are there so many different prices for laser surgery?
You’ve heard the old adage, “You get what you pay for,” also applies to laser vision correction. Patients should remember that they only have one set of eyes and it’s probably not a good place to compromise. Patients should be cautious of discount centers that rely heavily on volume and may not be as focused on patient screening and care. Consumers should make sure they are comparing equivalent care and experience for corrective eye surgery when doing their research. Often the more expensive procedures include added benefits that discounters do not offer.
Are both eyes done at the same time?
Usually both eyes are done at the same time, but they can be done separately. This is an issue that you may wish to discuss with your surgeon.
Is laser eye correction surgery painful?
The surgery itself is generally painless because medication is administered to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. You'll be awake throughout the procedure. In fact, we'll be talking to you and your responsiveness is important. After the procedure, your eyes may feel scratchy, gritty, or watery and there may be some mild to moderate pain for one to three days (mostly with PRK, not with LASIK). This may be relieved by oral medications and topical eye drops. These symptoms are temporary and are not a problem for most patients.
Why should I choose MECA Eye and Laser Center?
|
How long will the procedure take?
You will be in our surgery center from beginning to end about two hours due to the pre and post work. The actual procedure takes about 7 - 8 minutes per eye.
Why would one choose Custom LASIK/PRK over Conventional LASIK/PRK?
| Custom
LASIK/PRK is an individualized laser vision correction treatment that is
wavefront-guided. With the Custom LASIK/PRK procedure, nearsighted, farsighted
and astigmatic individuals have the potential to achieve a new level of vision.
Custom LASIK/PRK uses wavefront-guided technology to measure unique imperfections in the eye. The technology then produces a treatment for the eye and the information is transferred to the laser. The doctor then uses that information to fine-tune the procedure thereby providing a new level of precision and accuracy. |
Can laser surgery be done after previous refractive procedures such as RK?
Yes. However, this depends on each patient, and therefore would be assessed individually by your surgeon.
